Gendai Krav Maga

gavelbow

Krav Maga is the Israeli term commonly utilised to describe generic self-defence. It is directly translated as Contact Combat.

Due to the Current Head of the Gendai School's close links to the Israeli Martial Arts we apply many Krav Maga concepts and Principles in our Defensive Tactics training. These include aspects such as circular defence as well as integrated defence and attack. Several of our affiliate and partner schools actively teach Krav Maga as their primary form of Defensive Tactics and Self-defence training. We strive not to participate in political discussions and style affiliation as such we do not affiliate to any other KM associations but issue our own Gendai Krav Maga (GKM) Instructors certifications for those who qualify.

How do we teach the self-defence skills required for civilians (men and women)?

The primary aim for our civilian courses is instilling an attitude of avoidance and escape. The core concept is that as a civilian there is no reason to be moving toward a situation or potentially dangerous altercation unless you absolutely have no choice (i.e. your life or some one else's may be in danger). In this case the aim is to as efficiently as possible ensure that you create the opportunity for escape by applying our unique I.C.E. approach:

  •
Intercept the attack and Initiate the Defensive Action

  • Control the Attacker / attack situation

  • Escape and Evade

For short courses we prefer to divide men and women and apply a midwifed methodology to teach women's self-defence and rape prevention under our Defence Against Rape and Escape (D.A.R.E.)
D.A.R.E is a comprehensive course aimed at providing women the necessary skills to do the following:
